The Effect of Peer Pressure: A Life-Altering Choice

Growing up, I always believed I had a strong sense of right and wrong. But everything changed when I entered tertiary institution. I wanted to belong, to be accepted by the cool kids who seemed to have life figured out. Little did I know, the pressure to fit in would lead me down a path I never intended to take.

It started with small things like skipping assignments, talking back to lecturers and skipping lectures. My new friends laughed and cheered me on, making me feel invincible. But then came the real test. One evening, we gathered at a secluded spot where some of them pulled out cigarettes and alcohol. "One sip won’t hurt," they said. I hesitated, but the fear of being mocked overpowered my conscience. I gave in.

That single moment of weakness led to a series of bad decisions. My grades dropped, my relationship with my parents became strained, and I lost sight of my dreams. When I finally hit rock bottom, those same friends who pressured me were nowhere to be found.

Peer pressure can be powerful, often pushing us to act against our values. But true strength lies in saying "no" and standing firm in our beliefs. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, not those who lead you astray.

SAY NO TO PEER PRESSURE!!!
